The therapeutic power of imagery
Often the most powerful images are the imagined or remembered ones. When brought to mind they can positively or negatively affect our sense of wellbeing. Focusing our undivided attention on what we can see, hear, feel, taste, and smell gives us a real life experience. Being consciously aware of the present moment and the world around us can still our mind. It lets us be present in the moment with what really is. Mindfulness like this has been described as deliberately falling awake to our senses.
Taking a break from dwelling on things that happened in the past or may happen in the future can give us a sense of calm and peacefulness. It’s something we can choose to do and tap in to the positive power of imagery. Making images with a camera is just one of many ways to focus our attention on and be in the present moment.
